Mental health and wellbeing

In Australia, between 10 and 15 per cent of older adults have depression and approximately 10 per cent experience anxiety. In a 2022 survey conducted by ARIIA, the Australian aged care workforce nominated mental health and wellbeing as a priority topic for the sector. The Knowledge and Implementation Hub provides evidence of best practice, along with learning and practical resources, to support the aged care workforce in delivering safe, high-quality care to individuals.

Mental health and wellbeing evidence and resources

The Knowledge and Implementation Hub has brought together research evidence on what works for mental health and wellbeing in aged care with Australian online learning and practice tools and resources. The content was developed by:

  1. A scoping review of published systematic reviews that revealed the main ‘evidence themes’ across the mental health and wellbeing research.
  2. An environmental scan of online resources in diverse formats such as guidelines, videos, learning modules, and downloadable information sheets.

This work has been guided by an advisory group of researchers with expertise in the topic and people with experience in the sector.
