Palliative care and end of life
Aged care services provide care to people in their last years, months, and days of life. In a 2022 survey conducted by ARIIA, the Australian aged care workforce nominated palliative care and end of life as a priority topic for the sector. The Knowledge and Implementation Hub team has gathered evidence of best practice, along with learning and practical resources, to support the aged care workforce in delivering safe, high-quality care to older Australians coming to the end of their life.
Palliative care and end of life evidence and resources
The Hub team has brought together research evidence on palliative care and end of life issues in aged care as well as Australian online learning and practice tools and resources. This involved:
- A scoping review of published systematic reviews that revealed the main ‘evidence themes’ across palliative care and end of life research.
- An environmental scan of online resources in diverse formats such as guidelines, videos, learning modules, and downloadable information sheets.
This work was guided by an advisory group of researchers with expertise in the topic and people with experience in the sector.
