Summary: This project involves a National Consortium in Australia to enhance team-based primary care models. With five research groups, a consumer group and 100 investigators, it aims to generate innovative models for better health outcomes. Collaborating with government agencies, our research addresses key themes to fill knowledge gaps. Led by senior primary care researchers, it will deliver a comprehensive research program in five years, facilitating faster adoption of innovative care practices nationwide.
The diverse membership base of the Consortiuma also includes key Research Centres encompassing primary care in rural and remote settings, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, aged care, women’s sexual and reproductive health, child and adolescent health, family violence prevention and mental health.
Why this project matters: Multidisciplinary teams can provide more comprehensive health care and sustainable health services leading to healthier Australians. Australians prefer to age in place and access to health care in their communities is pivotal to this.
ARIIA’s role in the project: ARIIA is one of the key 5 research centres of the Consortiuma, bringing a comprehensive understanding of multidisciplined team based (MDT) primary care through the lens of the older person. ARIIA places significant weight on co-design and the importance of the research end user’s voice in our work.
ARIIA’s contribution to the Consortia, led by Chief Investigator Dr. Rebecca Bilton, Program and Research Director, working with Senior Research Fellow Dr. Jodie Hillen (grant-funded post-doctoral researcher) and Research Fellow Dr. Alix Farrall, is supported by our own internal Advisory Group established for this MRFF grant, with a focus on older Australians experiences with multidisciplinary care.
We are also leveraging our existing relationships with Providers (residential and home), Public Health Networks (PHNs), Government and Aged Care Service Recipients to promote the generation of meaningful and impactful research outputs from the Consortiuma aimed at improving policy and practice for the delivery of more accessible and connected MDT care that puts Australian health and aged care consumers first.
